Receiving an error message when uploading your image?
The first step in troubleshooting this is to make sure you're uploading a vertical image to a vertical frame, or a horizontal image to a horizontal frame (example: an 8x10 frame requires an 8x10 image, and a 10x8 frame requires a 10x8 image). If you're uploading a horizontally-oriented image to a vertical frame (or vise versa), you'll receive an error message.
The next step is to be sure you've cropped the photo and exported it in the right dimensions.
Instructions for Lightroom
We’ll use a 20x16 image in this example.
- You'll want to crop the image to the correct aspect ratio for your desired output (4x5/8x10 for a 20x16 -- or simply select “custom” and enter your dimensions).
2. Next, you’ll export as shown in the screenshot below. Since you're already in the correct aspect ratio, you'll only need to specify the export dimensions for the long edge of the photo -- in this case, 20 inches. Also be sure to specify a resolution of 300 pixels per inch.
- Once you've exported your file, you can check the pixel dimensions by viewing the image in your Finder (if you're on a Mac).
Instructions for Photoshop
- With your image open in Photoshop, select the “Crop” tool.
- Choose W x H x Resolution from the cropping tool options
3. Set your dimensions and resolution for your desired output (ex. 20 in x 16 in @ 300 dpi)
4. Crop your image and choose “Save As” to avoid overwriting your original.
This online pixel calculator tool can be handy for checking what the pixel dimensions should be for a file. For a 16x20 image (vertical orientation), the pixel dimensions should be 4800x6000. For a horizontally-oriented image (20x16), your pixel dimensions would be 6000x4800.
If these steps don't help, please reach out to support@designaglow.com with any relevant screenshots and a zipped file of the image you are trying to upload.
Special thanks to Anna Harris for the lovely image in our example.
